Employment Law Compliance
Protecting your business starts with having effective employment policies and procedures in place. Your business needs clear, simple policies to guide you and your employees through the employment relationship, from hiring to separation and everything in between. Cookie-cutter handbooks from payroll companies or online “legal experts” are not safe and not effective. If you want to sleep better at night, you need an attorney who will take the time to get to know you and your business, and craft an employee handbook and policies manual that is customized to your specific business’s needs. If your business needs a new Employee Handbook or a refresh of its current handbook, please contact me today for a free consultation and quote.
Workplace Training and Investigations
Siegler Law Firm provides customized training for managers on relevant areas of employment law, including discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation, and wage and hour. These training sessions help business owners sleep better at night because well-trained managers are less likely to violate employment laws, and juries and courts look more favorably upon companies that have not only strong policies but a documented training procedure in place.External investigations are a great way for businesses to show they are serious about complying with employment laws. Siegler Law Firm provides companies with timely and comprehensive external investigations of potential employment law violations by employees, managers, or executives.Contact me today for a free consultation and quote.
Wage and Hour Lawsuits and Audits
Small businesses are a favorite target of employees who claim to have been “overworked and underpaid” in violation of federal and state wage and hour laws. Some of these cases have merit; many do not. Unfortunately, the legal system does not adequately protect small businesses from these types of lawsuits. Even if a business keeps perfect records, an employee can still make a claim. Similarly, federal and state agencies can audit your business’s payroll records whether or not they receive a complaint. I have successfully defended restaurants, hotels, clothing stores, pharmacies, medical offices, construction companies, jewelry stores, warehouses, property management companies, manufacturers and more from these types of claims, including:
Failure to Pay Overtime
Failure to Pay Minimum Wage
Failure to Pay “Spread of Hours” Pay
Unlawful Deductions from Pay
Tip Pooling and Tip Sharing Violations
Payroll Violations
Misclassification of Employee/Contractor
I created Siegler Law Firm with the specific goal of helping small businesses and business owners prevent these types of claims, and defending them vigorously if required, at a fair and reasonable price. With me representing you in your wage and hour lawsuit or audit, you can sleep better at night knowing that you hired the right attorney for the job. Business Disputes
When entrepreneurs go into business together, they generally do so with good intentions. The partners put either their money, sweat equity, or specialized knowledge into the business and hope to share its success fairly. However, as we well know, even the best laid plans sometimes go awry. When business partners need to separate, it can be complicated and costly.
I have been representing businesses in business disputes for over 25 years, in cases ranging from breach of contract to oppressed minority shareholder to business divorce. If your business partners are breaching a contract, breached their fiduciary duties, engaging in fraud or bad faith, hiding assets, falsifying records, or making unauthorized distributions, you need a focused and effective attorney to represent you and vindicate your rights at a fair and reasonable price.
